for a short one- one option for a yummy dinner is an empire chicken- put it in the backpack frozen- they are well sealed, precooked and won't defrost fully until over the fire and the BBQ sauce doesn't set me off.. they are kosher chickens and very yummy.. just need to be warmed..

make chili on the go- lightweight pot to mix it and cook it in, 2 ways: a) preprepped spice packets for either... b) can of safe chicken broth (or if you can use bullion and know you'll have a source of water- bullion) or canned tomatoes, and canned beans still in can.. quick and easy... again if its a shorter trip you can take frozen meat to use and let it defrost in doubled ziplocs in your backpack itself...


For snacks: trail mixes, luna bars, and other items of the ilk work well...
