Tapas places of course have certain things to avoid, but there is so much to try. My favorite surprise hit was "boquerones," which are white anchovies marinated in vinegar. They usually also have tons of bread, which is great. The tortilla espanola is medium-safe. It is made with whole eggs, so if you are very sensitive to yolks steer clear ... but per serving there isn't much fat (usually, because of course this varies) and the potatoes provide a lot of sf. I have played around a lot at home and I managed to make a pretty decent tortilla espanola with just egg whites. I also made some very very decent croquetas with rice milk instead of real milk, and with bacos! They came out pretty good, so I'll post the recipe when I get a chance.
I did a semester in spain in college (thankfully pre-ibs) and I still get homesick for all the things I used to eat there!
Also, tapas places are great for portion control. If you are really stable and you want to cheat, it's easy to have just one bite of something, instead of negotiating with maybe a giant hunk of cheesecake someplace else!
