Welcome, Mary!! And of course, welcome to Blossom, too!! As someone with a disability plus IBS, I can sure sympathize. (I have severe fibromyalgia and sometimes need to walk with a cane. I bought myself a gorgeous purple one!)
Yes, I had a parasite once also. "Severely and violently sick" is the perfect description!! Mine was campylobacter and I picked it up in Brazil on a business trip. It was definitely different from my IBS symptoms, but you're right, other people here may have a parasite instead of or in addition to IBS. Also in people prone to IBS, stomach flu or a parasite can then in turn trigger the development of IBS even after they recover from the bug.
