Hi all, So if you read my post about my last night's meal out on the Diet board, you saw this post coming but if not, I am just struggling a bit with co-habitating with my boyfriend's family. We have lived together for over a year, but it's still so bizarre... It's like all the things that bother you about your own family, but new stuff.. and without that comfort you have with your own family where you can yell at each other.
SO! I want to know what all of your best 'bad roommates' stories are. I have heard tons from people in real life (not that this is fake life.. you know what I mean..) so I wanna hear yours!
Let me start with mine: My boyfriend's family.. Okay so his Dad is so anxious and paradoid and on and on ALL THE TIME that it makes it impossible to chill out in the house. Like, if I go down into the kitchen and he hears me, he comes tearing in to see what I'm doing. Every time. Without fail. And if I'm in there for a while, he comes and checks every few minutes. He vaccums twice a day on the weekend, the first time always really early in the morning, he checks the smoke alarm ALL THE TIME so it's always beeping and beeping.. He is on a special low-cholestoral diet but craves things he isn't allowed so he preaches constantly about how healthy his diet is, but if you leave ANYTHING nice in the kitchen (be it something in a package like biscuits, or leftovers from dinner in the fridge) he will sneak in and eat all of it. I mean, ALL OF IT. He can only cook about 3 different dishes, so if we make something else (which we always do 'cause I can't eat any of those 3 dishes!), he just comes in and takes it. I've made so many lunches for myself, and had them gone in the morning because he's gotten drunk and eaten them. He even ate my dinner last week when it was sitting in the kitchen, so I had no dinner. I could really go on and on! His mum is lovely, I love her to bits. The only thing I feel weird about is that she is such a 'mom' and I never had that when I was growing up. My mom doesn't clean or do laundry or anything, so when she comes in and is folding up my underwear or something it weirds me out. Adrian's sister is my age, and she's nice but she drives me nuts. She spent the last 6 months unemployed and used to just sit around all day with her unemployed friends and eat... my food! I have had to resort to keeping all my food in my room, or it gets taken. When I buy stuff that has to go in the fridge, I try to buy a lot so that when they eat it, there will still be some left for me in the morning. She goes out drinking and partying almost every night, and her parents give her money to do it. It's nuts. I do like her, and we get on but I get so annoyed when she eats all the food I buy. I have even had to start putting my name on stuff (even though it's pretty obvious if they didn't buy it, it's not theirs..) and she eats it anyway! When her parents went away a while ago, she wasn't used to them not bringing home her groceries every night, so just ate ALL the food we had brought into the house. I AM TOO BROKE TO BUY EVERYONE ELSE'S GROCERIES! Okay, so that's that... Those are the people in my house. I cannot wait until we move, because this house is tiny with one bathroom and it's impossible to be at home and not hear and know what everyone is doing at any given moment. Oh my God, I just thought of about 30 other things about the Dad and stuff that bug me... but I will stop now... 'cause I will just make myself crazy with this!! Let me know your stories! --Steph
