I have been through the ringer the past 8 months. I was diagnosed with IBS about 10 years ago, mistakenly put on Lomotil (lonox) for over 3 years, and then was informed that should have never happened. Apparently your body can become dependant on it. Recently, (the past 7 weeks )
I have had severe to moderate CONSTANT right side pain, very low, (NOT gallbladder or appendix!!) I have had contipation horribly, which I have never had very bad, but I can go 5-6 days, even use laxatives and nothing will happen! Execpt a bad stomach ache.  Now after yet another conlonoscopy, I was put on Zelnorm, and told my pain will go away. Well the Zelnorm has started the diarhea, and my pain is worse. I'm being told it will go away, but I read Zelnorm in contraindicated in patients with a history of diarhea.
To make matters worse I realized last night that another medication they have me on for Lupus-arthritic pain called Ultracet, for the past 7-8 months causes constipation. I have had to do all my own research and no one seems to listen. I'm stuck in HMO hell so I am limited to who I can see, but as a mom of six and a full time job this is killing me. Does anyone have any insight, suggestions, or anything that can direct me further. I can live with the everyday symptoms of IBS, but this constant pain and the 4 hour bouts in the bathroom are taking over my life.
