Firstly you need to make an appointment to see your doctor. You'll need a referral to a GI specialist, but if your GP/primary-care doc can send off for some test results asap, it'll make life easier. Look up Heather's list of tests (it's somewhere on here  ), but you will need a blood workup and a stool sample tested (aargh - Fibro Frog - are you C or D?. With the GI, push for a colonoscopy - it'll help to rule out IBDs.
Starting a SFS is a good plan - they're good for everyone, not just if you have IBS. And the diet's pretty healthy - make sure you cut out coffee (inc. decaf), caffeine, soda, all fizzy drinks, fast food and dairy. Don't drink alcohol and if you smoke, try to stop.
