I just got my first migraine in TEN DAYS!!! That's the longest I've gone in months. My (good) doc started me on Atenolol about a month ago and it kicked in right on schedule exactly 10 days ago. In the week prior to that, I had a migraine 6 of 7 days, the worst seige I've ever had.
I have enjoyed being headache free the last 10 days SO MUCH!! I've also got a better abortive now -- Imitrex, which works much better than Relpax for me -- AND thanks to the great book I've been reading by Dr. Stewart Tepper, I've learned to take the abortive RIGHT AWAY!!
As a result, I am actually able to sit up and type this to you rather than being in the bedroom with my eyeshade on!
Oh, and I'm totally not surprised I have a migraine today. Before they went out of control I usually had two menstrual migraines a month, once mid cycle and once just before or just after the end of the cycle. Guess what, it's day 29 and here's my sweet little migraine beastie right on schedule. But hopefully of shorter duration and lower intensity due to the preventive and taking the abortive quickly.
The folks over at the about.com migraine forum, especially Teri Robert, the moderator/guide, get lots of credit for helping me this past couple months. I'm very grateful. (And I sure never thought I'd say THAT on a day I had a migraine!!)
