I haven't mentioned our sweet old granny cat much. Her name is Terrapin (because she's a tortise-shell color) but we call her Terry or Boofley for short, or just Boo.
She was 16 years old in February and we knew her kidneys were slowing down at her last checkup a year ago.
Well, earlier this month she started refusing to eat her regular food, then wouldn't eat her Fancy Feast, and this week stopped eating her baby food that the vet told us to get her. She'd also gotten more lethargic and a little bit weak and was going to her hiding places to sleep where she goes when she's not feeling well.
So we've known all week that this might be it. Then last night she threw up what little she had in her system, so we called the vet this morning.
We just got back from seeing him. He confirmed our suspicions. She only has days, not weeks left to live. He rehydrated her and gave her some vitamins. I wanted to bring her home for a few days so we could say goodbye, but as soon as she starts showing signs of distress like vomiting again, we'll have to take her back so he can ease her way to the Rainbow Bridge.
She's our baby. We don't have kids -- she's been our precious angel baby for 16 years. I'm very sad. This is going to be awful. I'm going to be devastated.
Here's a picture of her.
Thanks for listening, everybody.
