Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | Survey re: hypnosis, acupuncture and dieticians

Hi, all.

I'm on a rant at the moment 'cause I just found out that my insurance doesn't cover hypnosis or acupuncture, and only covers consultations with dieticians for those with diabetes. ( NOTE: Not that I'm unhappy with Heather's diet, but I may be a celiac spue chick or at the very least gluten intolerant. I think if that's so, I'm going to need to talk to someone about my diet to make sure I'm getting the right nutrients! ARGH!

I'm raging, here! That insurance won't cover these things is ridiculous!

If IBS is, indeed, the most commonly diagnosed gastro-intestinal disorder and is, indeed, the 2nd leading cause of worker absenteeism, don'tcha think insurance should cover these alternative treatments?

So my point is this: how many of you have insurance plans that would cover these types of services? I'm very curious to know if it's just my cheap-o company that's the problem, or if this is really wide-spread.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!
