Ah, Jessica, you want the embarrassing stories of my child actor youth. I'm going to need some embarrassing stuff out of you in return.

Anyway, yeah, I've done commercials. I've done television, radio, and one public service spot. I got to be the voice of a cartoon once, in a series of commericals, which was cool. That was a long, long time ago. The public service was the worst... I was 18 and playing a 12 year old. I was both taller and older than the person playing my big sister. I think I came across as mentally challenged. Also, they'd written it to be a "black" family, and then decided it was too much of an offensive stereotype, so they changed it to a white family, but kept the same poorly written dialogue. I talked fast and said a billion words.

Anyway, auditions... I like film acting better than live theatre, so I never minded the auditions. I've done cattle calls... you just go into a room, line up and do your bit in front of the camera... they call you back and you do another little bit. No big deal. I totally tanked an audition (another public service announcement, this one about drinking and driving). It was in a private room and I was well out of the habit of auditioning (I don't act anymore), and I was improving and for some reason forgot to speak! I did the whole thing like I was in a silent movie. Yeesh. Anyway, its much like theatre auditions, only instead of playing to an imaginary other, you focus your acting on the camera, as if it were the person you're talking to.

The only TV shows I've done was part of a local project where high schoolers do news updates on the NBC affiliate during lunch time, called "News Whys." You do a week of those and then a Saturday news show for kids. But that was a nomination from our teachers, not an audition.

Are you auditioning for commercials or tv?
