Men hate change. When I first got married, my mom-in-law pulled me aside and gave me one -- just ONE -- piece of advice: if I ever want to make a change, such as re-arranging the furniture, wait until hubby is out of the house and do it on my own.
Unfortunately, I forgot all about it, and soon after our wedding asked hubby to help me re-arrange the furniture in the living room. My goodness, he carried on like you would not believe! You'd have thought I'd asked him for a divorce. Needless to say, the living room stayed as it was. When I told his mom about it, she reminded me of her warning and said that, not only was my hubby like that, but so was his dad. She had to wait until they were both out of the house, and then she did all the work herself.
To this day -- after 37 years of marriage -- I have to wait until hubby is gone before I change ANYTHING in the house. Without giving away other people on this board's secrets, a particular gal told me that she is very busy fixing up her sunroom, with hubby kicking and screaming all the way.
So, Barb, if you want some privacy, just ask the men in your family to help you rearrange the furniture -- and see what happens.
