I was embarrassed to say, but approximately 15 years for me. I took good care of my teeth, though....flossing, brushing, etc., etc. I was scared of dentists because of an incident when I was young. A hygenist scolded me when I twitched when she poked my gum with one of her instruments...she said "Oh, that didn't hurt!" Well, that said to a very shy child isn't good. It took me 15 years to get the courage up to go. I didn't have any fillings and nothing bothered me...I went in for a cleaning and only had 9 small cavities that they fixed. I have been going every six months since then for cleanings and no new cavities. The dentist always comments on how good my teeth are. I am lucky to have found a good dentist. I don't even get scared any more.

Just try to stay calm and if your dentist gives you a hard time....find a new one.

Everything will be ok and your health will thank you for it, too.
