Diagnosis Question for Heather - or others who might know

My husband has been struggling with abdominal pain and bloody stools on and off for two or three years. He's been to a GI and had 2 colonoscopies. Both came back clean as could be which you would think would be great, except we still don't know what's wrong. The doctor thought he might have microscopic colitis but the biopsies didn't show it. I think another problem with the tests is that usually by the time the tests can get scheduled, the bleeding has subsided. We can't seem to get the test when the symptoms are present - problems with scheduling with a specialist! He has diagnosed him with IBS but not confidently because he admits bloody stools aren't a symptom of IBS, but he can't explain where the blood is coming from. There appear to be no hemmoroids, polyps or tears to account for the bright red blood. I know bright red is better than dark, but it is still scary. And whenever there is blood, I can tell because I see it in my husbands demeanor. He gets weak and just feels bad - along with the pain. Has anyone else come across this? Our GI is recommending that we go to MUSC, Duke, or Emory for further evaluation. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ideas of questions we can ask or ideas of things for them to look for?
