This really needs to be done. And it isn't nearly as bad as it sounds. Just tell them to knock you out so you sleep through the whole thing. Not to try to scare you, but a lot of things are misdiagnosed as IBS (Chron's, Colitis, colon cancer, Celiac's, ulcers, etc.) You deserve to know exactly what you're dealing with.
For the plane ride, try hypno. It works wonders. You can also try meditation.
