I have the same problem. I get invited to any social event, and my tummy cramps up immediately -- and doesn't "un-cramp" 'till the event is over. I find any kind of excuse to not attend, and have lost friends over this, unfortunately -- I don't have an answer. Wish I did. When I had to go to the company Christmas party, where we were all seated, I kept drinking the water, running to the bathroom, returning to the table, sipping more water, etc., and I wouldn't eat anything, just picking at my food. I didn't dare eat it! The only time I've ever been able to get through a social event without cramping is by having a Jack Daniels at the bar beforehand. Not a very good habit to get into, so I don't do it very often. I just lost a friend who I thought understood about my IBS, but apparently she didn't -- and got tired of my excuses why I couldn't drive miles out of town with her, through the woods, to sightsee. I just don't do well hanging my butt over a log, ya know? I hope someone else can come up with a better answer for you than I can. Bev.
P.S.: If it's any consolation, I think this problem is more common than we think. When I used to do crew, just before our race time, we all lined up at the outhouse, and sometimes that line ran around the corner! For me, the cramps didn't go away until I was in that boat at the start line and they shot the gun off; then my adrenalin took over. I just think this is a common thing for a lot of people, even people without IBS.
