Hi there!

Yes, you can have pain with no other symptoms some of the time at least. That the pain goes away when you lay down and relax and when you sleep is a good sign that it comes from the IBS. The motility pattern of the bowels in a person with IBS is only abnormal when the person is awake I just learned which explains why IBS symptoms typically don't wake you from your sleep. I take it you've had this type of pain before only now you have it without the D. If you should get an entirely new symptom however it's always a good idea to bring it up with your doctor.

Try the diet for a while and the herbal teas and if the pain doesn't get better then maybe you can bring it up with your doctor and ask to try an antispasmodic. But for many people peppermint works as well or even better than antispasmodic drugs from what I have heard/read.

Good luck and welcome to the boards.
