I would highly recommend seeing a colon surgeon. He/she will know exactly what to look for.

No, I don't have any children. But I desperately want some...which is why I'm seeing a fertility specialist. You can read my other threads (Baby Making and Infertility). Anyway, so that was not the cause for me. I never had chronic constipation either. I have no idea what "caused" my prolapse. But I think it was probably something I've had all my life and just gradually got worse as I got older...to the point where I noticed it and it caused problems. It was the cause of my constipation (I hesitate to call it that...my stools were fine, just very difficult to get out b/c of the prolapse...which made me feel constipated), not the result of it.

I am at the opposite end of the weight spectrum. With feeling sick for years and then surgery and recovery my weight has gone way down. I'm on the borderline of being underweight...which doesn't help the fertility issues. I'm working on gaining a few pounds. But I haven't been very successful. I have never been and probably never will be a very big person (my mom is smaller than I am!). So I know my weight didn't cause the prolapse either. Sometimes we just don't know why...just lucky I guess :P Are you very old? I'm 27. Most doctors told me I was too young for prolapse. I'm glad I finally found one that would listen to me and check for it. It is more common in elderly people. Again, just lucky to have it so young :P
