I'm new here and I'm hoping someone can help...
I'm 24 and I've had a history of IBS-like symptoms for, I think, about 3 years now... (Totally TMI, but: No constipation, Loose stools almost daily... generally more than 2xday, much worse/more often & w/cramping with stress/nerves, always after any large meals, of course always worse after greasy/fatty foods, etc.)
I've brought it up to my PCP once, (I go to a large practice with a million residents and 2 or 3 real doctors, they really are awful...) I wound up getting a whole lesson on stress-relieving breathing exercises and ZERO information about IBS... My 'self-diagnosis' is based on personal research.
I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with my second child, I didn't have much of a problem with it while pregnant with my first (She's 11 months old now.) It actually seemed to clear up a bit when I started pre-natal vitamins... I had my gallbladder removed when she was 6wks old and that didn't seem to affect anything except that my reactions to greasy/fatty foods are a bit worse now...
Now, for the past week I've had at least 4-5 episodes a day, immodium isn't helping and the only way i can get it to stop for a while is by NOT eating anything... (which is how I got through work on Thurs. & Friday - just didn't eat until I got home - such a wonderful thing to have to do while pregnant) I was okay yesterday & this morning, (because I didn't eat anything substantial) and when I mentioned it to my OB today he said "As long as its stopped now, I wouldn't worry... it was probably viral."
But I've eaten since then and, Surprise! Its back!
I did run out of my pre-natals about 3 weeks ago and I was waiting on a new prescription to send into my mail-order pharmacy, so perhaps the OTC vitamins aren't cutting it? (My preferred brand is Duet DHA, I've been on them since March '05 when I became pregnant the first time and my symptoms had been less since then...) I've also been on Cromagen Forte (Iron/Folic Acid supplements for severe iron deficiency anemia - somehow my symptoms seem worse on days I forget to take them, too... is that odd?)
I don't know if this is a vitamin-related thing or a hormone-related thing, its just awful...
I'm pretty sure my past symptoms point towards IBS... Anyone agree? But I'm wondering if this is something that other women have experienced w/IBS in pregnancy...
Any advice/Suggestions?
Thanks in advance! jess
