Well, I chickened out with the perm. The stylist said she couldn't do a body wave without doing at least SOME curl. When she said that, I asked, well, what's "some" curl? She said, oh, you'd probably end up looking like ... that. And then she pointed at someone across the room who had totally Finger-In-Electric-Outlet-Hair.
So, I decided to just get my hair cut. I went to a different salon totally, because I really didn't like the stylist at City Looks, and then I was afraid to go back to City Looks because then she might see me and get offended. Anyway, so I walk into this other salon, and the stylist doing my hair is like total Goth, with half of her hair about an inch long, and the other half hanging in this long flat curtain down to her cheek, and this weird poufy thing in the back -- most of the hair is dead-black, but then there's like this red stuff going on. And I mean red -- like this red.
OK, great, so I feel like I'm gonna walk out of there looking like Marilyn Manson ... but I bravely sit down anyway. And, she actually did a really good job. I have it still somewhat long (longest part an inch or two past shoulders), but my layers are shorter and everything just looks so much nicer. Which wasn't too hard -- I actually normally cut my own hair, but awhile back I went to a cheap salon, and they butchered it so that the layers looked super-horrible. And I was too scared to try and fix it myself -- I really only just trim the ends, I doubt I could actually give myself a "real" haircut.
Anyway, no pictures yet -- I didn't take a picture right after and I didn't bother styling it today so it's kinda flat and boring. Maybe tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice. I'm so glad I decided against the perm. I think I would have really regretted it. I think if I were in a bigger city I might have been able to get a real body wave, but around here everyone thinks that a body wave means that the rods are the size of your thumb instead of the size of your pinky.
