Ok all you dog lovers out there, I need some advice! Well, I guess I need help sorting out all the adive I've been getting! I've never owned a dog before, so I'm truely clueless here! The breeder I got Harley from is a small time breeder. She owns 8 Shih tzus of her own and has a few litters each year that she sells. Harley was in a whelping box until he was like 6-7 weeks with his litter mates, than he more or less ran free with all the other dogs. He has never been crated. He got along VERY well with all her other dogs and cats and was very playful when we were there. I know there is going to be some adjustment time for him but he gets very shaky and scared when around other people and even if he is sleeping, if I get up and walk around, he will follow me. He plays well with me and runs and plays fetch and is very lovey with me and Will. If someone walks into the office or if I take him to "visit" anyone, he starts shaking and gets very afraid and shy.

There is a Yuppy Puppy Daycare in the plaza that I work in and the gal that runs said he MUST be crate trained. I'm not sure how I feel about that because he has full run of everything and goes potty on his papers and doesn't chew up stuff or get into trouble at all. She said that if I don't crate train him now, that I won't have any control over him when he gets older. Is this true??

She said not to thrust him onto people and to let him go to others. She said I can have some treats on my desk and the people who come into the office who want to pet him, that I should give them a treat to give to him and only have them give the treat after he comes to them on there own. Ok, I hope that come out right but I guess that makes sense to me so I'll try that unless anyone has some better suggestions.

He will go with me to the office every day and anywhere else I can take him so I need him to listen to me. I'll be taking him to the vet this Saturday for shots and they have some brochures on puppy training classes so I'm hoping to get signed up for one very soon. I just love him so much and want him to be a good dog when he grows up so I don't want to screw him up now!!!!

P.S I should have pictures tomorrow!! I brought the camera to work today but Will has the cord to download them at home!
