My friend got the surgery about 5 years ago so she was around your age. She is about a US size 12 but she went down to a C cup, but a small C. She was GG. Her boobs are really odd now, they are too small for her body and she has no cleavage because she has a wide ribcage. I noticed all this at the weekend when she was wearing a very low cut top. She has those scars that you're talking about so its great that you won't have them. Did the dr say anything to you about loss of nipple sensitivity? My friend has absolutely no feeling in one of her nipples at all. She is so happy that she had the surgery and it really helped her back, and her self confidence too!!! Just be ready when you do get the op that it will knock you out (literally!) for a couple of weeks as its major surgery so try to plan it well.
