Carol:
I haven't had gluten in years and trust me--you really don't miss it!!! Donuts are just donuts. Do you have some sort of attachment to donuts? What kind of emotional stuff are you ducking out of with donuts? How does the gluten food "comfort you?" What does it HIDE or help you really avoid? The stuff is toxic to you. Just have a ritual burial of the you on gluten and get on with life. It's really not that big a deal. If anything you'll feel better, mentally, physically and psychologically. You'll thrive! If you need a food buzz try fruits and veggies.
Also, I thought of a plan re: your limited access to decent snacks environment. It's not ideal, but...how about some canned stuff? Tetras? A hand blender? It doesn't require refridgeration. You can pick up an assortment of stuff that doesn't need refridgeration. (Sorry--it's a really long story, but nearly ten years ago, I was assaulted and went out of my mind and vagrant and lived at a women's shelter until my family found me and helped me recognize myself, again. This is what I did, re: food. I'd keep stuff like applesauce and canned peaches and canned veggies/soups in my room as well as fruits like bananas and a few soft things in season, i.e.nectarines and babyfood, rice crackers/dry cereal stuff.)
Honestly--are you really addicted psychologically to that substance which is toxic to your well being? HUGS, hugs, hugs...this is hard for you to accept and adapt to and I totally appreciate that this attachment and habit is going to be a helluva challenge for you to adapt.
I just want life for you to be increasingly ameliorated. You've got such a fiery attitude! I love it! Kate, IBS-d and Wild at Heart, tonight.
