Just thought about this because first Melissa and now Lyndsey are engaged! I know this thread has come up in the past, but there are a lot of new people here now. Also I'm curious -- how many of you were truly taken by surprise at being proposed to?
We'd been shopping for rings for months, so being proposed to wasn't a complete surprise. (I'm old-fashioned and I would've liked to be surprised ... but he wanted to propose with THE ring, and he wanted me to pick it out first.)
It was around 9:00 one night and I was pretty tired. We'd spent some time cleaning out our front porch (which is enclosed/insulated and used like any other room), and he had gone out there several minutes ago. I thought he was doing more cleaning. He asked me to come in there for a minute. I didn't want to because I just KNEW he was going to ask me to help him start moving furniture or something and I was TIRED!! So I dragged myself in there, and he got down on one knee, held out the ring, and said, "Will you marry me?"
I said yes, of course. But, later on, when the moment was no longer quite so touching, I pointed out that it would have been more romantic if he had picked a spot that wasn't six inches away from the cats' litter boxes.

How did your husband propose?
