I teach a class on personality types and it seems that you might be a "sanguine" which is the happy go lucky type that can have fun anywhere and basically see the lighter side of any situation. I too am a sanguine.
He may be a "melancholy" who would analyze his interaction with a squirrel. They usually see the dark side..
There is nothing wrong with you or him, it is just that the two of you are different. If we were all the same life would be boring.
I know that I can overwhelm the melancholies with my rah-rah personality so I try to be aware of that and temper myself though I do not crawl into a hole an choose not to talk. Melancholies see sanguines as superficial but on the flip side, we tend to see them as boring, moody people.
Don't be hard on yourself, celebrate yourself for who you are and disregard what he said. Maybe he was having a bad day.
