Do a search in here for "Fosamax." It's a wonder drug that has actually "cured" osteoporosis, and we've discussed it before in the Living Room.
My 80 year-old friend had osteoporosis, and her doctor (who diagnosed it) put her on Fosamax, which reversed the bone loss entirely.
When my internist did a bone density test on me and discovered I had significant bone loss, he too put me on Fosamax. I don't know how long I was on it, but the next time he did a bone density test on me, he was ecstatic; the results were phenomenal -- even my dentist noticed the difference in my TEETH! My internist then put me on 1,200mg. Calcium with Vitamin "D", which I've been taking ever since and will have to take for the rest of my life. No problem there!
You should be aware of the side effects. Foxamax can and DOES cause extreme cramping; it did for me, and that was before I came down with IBS. I was on one pill a day -- that was 22 years ago -- now I understand the normal dosage is 1 a week, so hopefully it wouldn't give you bad cramps except once a week, if then. Regardless, it's well worth the suffering in the long-run if it'll "cure" your osteoporosis as it did my elderly friend -- and me.
Good luck!
Bev
