I just saw this thread. Sorry, Steph. I was up in your country yesterday, and didn't get into The Living Room at all.
It sounds like you had a bad time with the shrink -- or did you? It appears he got you to open up, which is a good thing, and crying all the way home allowed you to "get it all out," another good thing. I wouldn't give up on this shrink just yet.
So often our friends and family accuse us of being obsessed with being sick -- and I think a lot of us are, it's true. We have damn good reason to be, I'd say! But if you don't want to be obsessed, you might consider JenX's situation. She has IBS, of course, and within the past year was diagnosed with fibro. Now there's a gal who could really get down about it BIG time, ya know? But what did she do? She got engrossed in her job -- yeah, and men too -- and got her mind off the pain. I got an e-mail from her recently, and she said she's been totally IBS-symptom-free for a real long time now. She didn't have time to think about it, she was so busy.
She really inspired me. If you don't want to be "THAT GIRL who is obsessed with being sick," then don't. It was Michael who told us about the power of positive thinking, that the conscious mind controls the subconscious, which in turn controls the body.
Steph, we can think we're one way or we can think we're another, but either way, we're right.
And, sweetie, about that support group? Here we are!
