Poor Vicam! I feel for you! I too have debilitating endometriosis. For me the feeling is like 1000 tiny fishhooks speared into my uterus, with a giant weight on the fishing lines pulling DOWN. In addition to this ripping pain, I get cramps that hit right through me and leave me bent completely over in the fetal position, gasping for air. That's the best way I can describe it. It lasts about 5 days every month.
I too take birth control (progestrone, as estrogen gives me migraines and blood) to stop my periods. Period free since '95!! Yeaaa! I am too faced with the roadblock of potentially stopping this treatment and having the dreaded endo come back.
Opiates will constipate you, but I highly recommend oxycontin and hydrocodone. I am a D, so I don't mind the constipation (it really is a small thing compared to the pain from endo). On the flip side, I absolutely cannot at all take naproxen sodium (aleve) as it rips up my gut and I get awful D attacks. Oxycontins take away severe pain, and if regular opiates like percocets aren't helping you, you might ask a doctor about going this route.
OK, something else. And please take this in the spirit it is intended... Amanda's herb suggestion is a good one. Pot really helps the gut relax and it does take your mind off of the pain. I highly recommend marijuana use when it comes to endo, period pains in general, and pain from IBS. Keep in mind I have asthma and can't even inhale cigarettes as they're too harsh for me, yet I find breathing in pot smoke no problem at all and accutely beneficial against gut pain.
Accutely Beneficial Against Gut Pain. I'm not kidding.
Whatever you decide, please take it easy when the endo comes back, and make sure to have 7 pillows, a heating pad, your favorite water bottles, and some good TV on hand. Please post your results, if the endo was milder or worse after the hiatus, and how you're dealing with everything.
Good luck, and I hope this episode will be mild and quick!
