Earlier this week, I emailed one of the editors at the daily newspaper here with an idea for a story. He and I chatted for several days, and then I decided to tell him that I used to write for the weekly paper here. I told him a little about myself, and before I know it, he responds by requesting my resume and samples of my writing.
Oh, my gosh! I never thought he'd be interested. Although I have a lot of writing experience, I've only worked for small papers, never a large daily like this one (circulation about 260,000).
When I worked for the weekly newsmagazine here, the editor used to receive hundreds of resumes---and she never responded to any of them. So I'm shocked that not only did he respond so quickly, but that he said he forwarded my email to one of the other editors. He said he'd like to look over my material, and if he liked what he saw, maybe we could work something out.
Ok .... ok. ....I'm not going to get my hopes up! I was up late last night redoing my resume and trying to decide which stories to send to him. Say a prayer! I'm going to send them to him in a minute. I just had to tell someone. Even if this goes nowhere, I'm very flattered that he wants to take a close look at my writing.
I can't believe this is happening.
