Well, don't stay in Headington if Oxford United are playing at home!

Buses do run on Saturdays - don't know if the P&R scheme is any different but I wouldn't think so.

With just one day to spend and coming at the end of a pretty demanding trip, doing the easiest thing is probably a good idea. If I were going, I would have to arrive at the coach or train station, so staying further out would be more difficult, but arriving in a car it might be easiest. The only thing is, you would have more time to walk round if you were staying in the centre of town, but I don't know if an extra hour(?) would be worth the probable extra hassle and expense ...

Nice places to walk if the weather is good: any of the meadows, but Christ Church Meadow is easy to find; the Botanic Gardens, quite small but very old and pretty; Magdalen College grounds, there are deer and you can walk up the river quite a long way if you want.

Good places if it is raining: the covered market - well, only if you like markets, I suppose! Any of the museums, eg Pitt-Rivers, full of oldy-mouldy stuff in glass cases - the way all museums were before they were made interactive and user-friendly. Or the Museum of Modern Art. Or Blackwells on Broad Street - a proper bookshop - but you won't want to come out for a week!

Wandering around colleges is sometimes okay, sometimes not - I mean I saw very obvious tourists being turned away by college porters sometimes. So try to look like a couple of students if you can! If you have seen any of the Inspector Morse films on TV you will probably recognise lots of places, they were all filmed on location. That reminds me, lots of pubs of course, most of them selling real ale.

Places to eat - they will all have changed since I was there, but there used to be a wholefood shop and cafe on Cowley Road, called Uhuru, but it would be a bit of a walk from the High Street just for that. There was a great Indonesian restaurant called Munchy Munchy, on Park End Street ... mmm ...

I'm sure you will have a great time there and on the rest of your trip as well. I have only been to Bath once and didn't see much apart from the Roman baths, so maybe you can tell me all about it. I have been to Blenheim - it is a great place to visit, especially if you are interested in the way English gardens were landscaped in the 18th century.

Well I am feeling quite nostalgic now - maybe I should take a trip myself!

Good luck with your planning.

Josephine
