Short-ish rant follows.....

my friend from work called in on the way home from work, we had a little chat about my hols and stuff AND THEN she starts telling me how she is worried about how my boss and my boss's boss are picking on one of my staff and that it is all my fault because I let them know that the staff member in question was underperforming!

I am so mad with her, she talked about if for ages, I got defensive and said i had to cover my you know what by reporting stuff up the line, she says she thinks I am being unfair on this guy, and that everyone is being harder on him than on the others and that if he told her he was going to take a case for bullying that she would support him!

she doesn't have ANY idea about (a) managing people (b) the day to day work of MY team and (c) the quality of his work.

I know I sound uppity but this has really annoyed me, he b2tched to her about it and she came to me with it. It could really have waited til Monday.

I have always been straight with the guy about the areas he is underperforming in, he is doing great in other areas of the work but I have made it clear to him that I want him to pull up his socks in some of the more basic stuff before I advance his training.

It has been really difficult managing him and this REALLY was the last thing that I needed!

ARGH!
