I know how hard it is dealing with a friend in need. My Junior year in highschool I missed a few weeks of school because I was in kidney failure. When I got back I found out my best friend had been diagnosed with brain cancer. The worst part was not being able to help. She still refuses to talk about it, and now that were away at colleges in different states, it's really hard to determine how she's doing because if I ask outright she hangs up on me. To make matters even worse her younger brother was recently diagnosed with the same type of cancer. It's hard feeling useless. I'd love to tell you it will get easier, but unfortunately it won't. After four years I still don't know how to deal with it. Let your friend know you're there for her if she needs anything, but if she wants to be left alone, be enough of a friend to back off. Hang in there, and know that we're here if you need us.
