"unassertive people may be more likely to develop irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a common gastrointestinal disorder that affects more women than men. Aggravated by stress, it causes abdominal pain, constipation and/or diarrhea. Most people who have IBS are submissive and nonassertive, says jefferey lackner, PsyD.
