First of all, thanks for all the suggestions! You guys rock. Truly. I was so upset about this yesterday that I couldn't even see straight, much less think about it in practical terms... I bookmarked this thread in case I need to fall back on any of these ideas in the next few weeks. I really appreciate it!
Having never been through anything like this before, I had no idea how things worked. My therapist today explained that even with due legal reason to evict us (which, unfortunately, they have), it's not like we're going to get thrown out ON SEPTEMBER 1. That just means that if we don't leave by then, they'll start eviction proceedings against us... which can take up to 3 months... at which point, god help us, we'll most likely be in our new house.
My therapist also suggested that we call our realtor and ask her to talk to the seller, and see if the seller would be willing to "rent" the house to us for the next couple months, until the closing is over with. She said that, as a seller herself several years ago, she'd have been THRILLED if the buyers offered such a thing, because her house was sitting there vacant, and she was still paying the mortgage on it.... and that's EXACTLY the situation with our house. The place is empty; the seller took the last of her things out 2 months ago.
So I'm still kind of anxious, but nothing like yesterday. My biggest fears were having to confront this total b*tch woman our landlords have as their "property manager" on 9/1, and then ending up homeless, and it really doesn't appear that either situation is going to happen, so I can relax a little.
Thanks again, guys. Now I just have to unwind from the 6-hour panic attack that kept me from sleeping last night.
