I am a big wimp about doctors and have seen a good friend go through round after horrible, embarassing round of medical tests trying to diagnos her IBS-like symptoms. I have never disclosed my symptoms to anyone, but my research is pointing to IBS or food allergy but they don't really fit either. I've had this for as long as I can remember in varying degrees but being young, I just took it as life and haven't paid much attention until the past year or so. Check this out and please let me know what you think...
After eating dinner (and 99% of time only at the evening meal) I get D within 30-60 minutes. I pass everything and then I'm fine. Not much pain, just the urgency and no control over my body's displeasure of evening meals. This happens 4-5 times per week.
I can go to a restaurant and eat half the meal, have the D, then eat the take-home portion the next day for lunch and be fine.
When I have alcohol during the meal, the majority of the time I don't have the D. Sometimes alcohol does not work though.
Foods that seem to aggrevate (again only at dinner) include: soda, spaghetti, fried foods, sauces/dips, pizza
Some similar foods are almost always "safe": chinese (including noodles), Mexican (including deep fried empanadas and chimichangas). Other "safe" foods: nongreasy meat/fish, veggies, most sandwiches, iced tea...
I have tried Pepto just after eating with no help, tried it before eating with no help. Haven't tried other OTCs. Drinking wine is the best reducer of the sypmtoms.
The thing about it being just with dinner really throws me. Is it all in my head? I'm a pretty down-to-earth person... Anyway, thanks for listening!
