Thanks for the protein and book suggestions. I'm definitely going to look into the "Becoming Vegetarian for Dummies" book. I am finding that most of the time I really don't want meat - meaning I have no appetite for it. I've read so much in the past year about all of the abuse that goes on in the factory farms and it makes me sick. Like you, I'm not necessarily opposed to people eating meat, I just feel that the animals deserve to be treated humanely and respectfully while they are alive. Have you read "Hope's Edge: The Next Diet for a Small Planet" by Frances Moore Lappe and her daughter Anna Lappe? I actually haven't read this book yet, although I own it and plan to read it as soon as I have time. It addresses some of the ethical reasons for being vegetarian, including world hunger. I also want to read "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins. I think that book goes into much more detail about factory farming.

I just want to say that it is so nice to have people to talk to about this. Whenever I bring it up at home, everyone just rolls their eyes at me It can be very isolating. I don't preach to other people saying they should become vegan/vegetarian, so I don't understand what the problem is! Ugh I'm so glad I have these boards!!
