Sometimes I wonder what's worse, the IBS or the panic attacks I have? They are so connected as far as worrying about having an attack and then getting ill or feeling ill so I start to panic. I have always had panic attacks but the last week and 1/2 i have taken off of work and have not gone back. I'm afraid I don't even have a job anymore which is making me panic is quite a lovely way at the moment.
I use the cds(started two days ago) and they are helpful in relaxing. I finally went to a therapist today because I really did not want to take antidepressants but also do not really like being nearly stuck in my house everyday from fear. He gave me a few things to do that might help. Breathing is so key in panic attacks and to deal with anxiety. He told me to pick my favorite color and to breath in slowly through my nose and out through my mouth imagining that i am breathing in the color(reminds me of meditation and yoga kind of). Also to imagine specific parts of my body relaxing starting with my forehead going all the way down.
I've started taking walks and I'm supposed to be counting how many shades of green I can see on my walk. I don't know exactly what this is supposed to do but I imagine it is so that your mind is focused on something other than the anxiety or stress. Congrats on making it to work and working through the anxiety though, it's more than I have been able to do for myself. Good luck!
