I agree with everyone else about more than just friends, that's sweet, can't wait to hear how it goes.
Over here, people mostly don't do dates. I think Gwyneth Paltrow got herself into a bit of trouble with the press commenting on how the British don't date, but it's true!!! Over here, if you ask someone out, you're sort of asking them to be your boy/girlfriend. People just sort of get to know each other a bit first - through school, work, friends, clubs and so on and so when someone asks you out it's really quite a big deal.
Problem is there are whole groups of people in their 20's, 30's and beyond who then get settled in their jobs, hobbies, groups of friends and whatever, and then say: "I never meet anyone".
Of course, things are changing a bit - people are going to singles events and speed-dating dinner parties and so on to try to meet people. And some people do date, but that's not generally the rule over here.
As for me, I still prefer the old way - get to know someone more as a friend first. I think dating is best, but I couldn't take the pressure!! Now that my mindset is firmly in the 'asking someone out is a huge deal' camp, it's too much for me to cope with to just go on dates with people you barely know, but if you've grown up with that, it must be far easier! Go for it and have a great time
