I've read other forums and websites about imodium and simethicone usage. I've read about some people taking more than recommended dosages to contain their IBS-D.

The box for imodium states no more than 4 in 24 hrs (2 mg), simethicone states no more than 4 in 24 hours (125 mg).

I would like to know how many of you self medicate before any symptoms occur and if you use the medicine to prevent the symptoms. If yes, how many do you take and when (before meals or morning, noon, night). How long have you done this (years, months?)

If you only take when symptoms occur, how many do you take to get rid of the cramps and/or diareah. Does the recommended dosage work for you, or do you take more. Does the symptoms clear quickly?

I have a couple of times taken imodium before I left for an event outside of home and seem to do okay, not sure if luck or meds preventing. On other events I don't medicate earlier, I can end up with IBS attack in public place (no fun).

I'm just curious how many other followers of Heather's recommended diet do this too. Do the people here, who are stable, use these meds still, or are they so stable they don't occur anymore, so not needed.

I really don't like taking meds before symptoms occur, but if taking beforehand alleviates a public attack, I'll take them.

Thanks for all you do. Much of the advice I have read on this site, seems to be spot on with what I go through myself and makes me relieved to know I'm not alone with this syndrome.
