Loc: Within stray mortar fire of DC
So I recently turned 38, and my friend Andy who's in a wheelchair drives up 2 1/2 hours to take me out for dinner. Really sweet. (You remember my friend Andy... I've talked a lot about the crazy stuff we've gotten into... )
After, we pull into the gas station and I hop out to get him a couple packs of cigarettes for the ride home. I was all dolled up to see Andy and the gas guy takes a look at me and right away asks me for my ID! I got carded hard! Yep, just made it by 20 years! (the guy blushed) I rule!
I was stoked. I called my mom this morning to tell her (she gets such a kick out of this!) She's French,and she never was carded for anything because the concept simply wasn't there for her.
She also likes to say I got her good genetics (instead of my father's. Classic divorcee statement.) She's been with me when I'm carded and laaaaaughs. She told me a few hours afterward that she was howling with laughter when she got off the phone with me. Maybe she should get out more. But I rock anyway.
My brother has it too, the baby face skin and rosy cheeks that scream "YOU SHOULDN'T BE SMOKING!", but we're conflicted because of our height-- I'm 5'11", and my little bro (36 years old) is 6'5".
Neither of us actually smoke. But it works in bars too. Several times in my 30's I was denied admission to a bar because the bouncer said my ID could be my older sister. So not all good. Plus the age discrimination I'd get at work when people thought I was in my twenties and should be making copies for them instead of me being their boss!!
Not complaining tho! One day this will end. Thought it had, but I still got it!
