Small Bowel Overgrowth Syndrome and IBS       09/13/07 08:22 AM Edit Reply Quote boardsjohn Reged: 09/13/07 Posts: 4 Help! I used to be diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, but recently tested positive for small bowel overgrowth syndrome. My main symptoms are bloating and constipation. They tested me for bacterial overgrowth by having me go on a white diet for 24 hours then the next day they checked my breath for gas. My hydrogen gas test went way up and my methane gas test went up slightly. They said the test was strongly positive for small bowel overgrowth. The gastroenterologist put me on Xifaxin (rifaxamin) 200 mg three times a day for two weeks. I was much better on the medicine, but the day after I stopped it, I was horribly bloated and constipated again. So much so that it is hard to move or breath. Has anyone gotten cured of small bowel overgrowth syndrome? What should I do next? Thanks. John Print     Remind Me     Notify Moderator
