Just wanted to say hi

Hi guys,

My name is Laura and I'm from Sussex in the UK. Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I just wanted to introduce myself really and say a quick hello to you all.

I developed my IBS 4 years ago whilst at uni (I'm now 24) after a joyous virus that had been going around where I just felt sick for 3 weeks non-stop (lovely stuff). Since then, I've never quite been the same. I suffer from all the usual symtoms at various times - the runs, spasms, wind, constipation, pain that makes you want to die and a whole host of other treats. The only fortunate thing was that I was able to manage it, the symptoms day-to-day were well ok at best. However, about 6 weeks ago I seemed to pick up a bit of a tummy bug which since then then has left my bowel in a state of despair. I spend every day in fear of what my guts have in store for me that day.

All in all it's been a pretty dark time and well quite scary and lonely at times. Family, friends and boyfriend have been super but I'm sure after the 100th time it must get pretty boring hearing about it - and as we all know it's not quite the same as going through it yourself. The silly thing is I could probably handle the pain and discomfort if I knew that it was going to go away in a month or 6 months but it's the added psychological impact of 'oh my god it's not going to go away EVER' that just drags you down and makes you feel so vulnerable and weak.

However, on a happier note it has been so great to find Heather's site and the Eating for IBS plan which really seems to be helping calm things down. Just knowing that there are so many of us out there going through the same thing (although very depressing) is such a comfort. So thank you all for voicing your stories and progress, I have found it really helpful.
Hope you are all doing as well as can be.
Best wishes
Laura x

p.s If any of my fellow UK sufferers know of any top tips on safe snack foods that we can get over here that would be really useful to know - I can only take so many more fat free crackers before I'm going to start munching on my desk (I realise I am now in completely the wrong section - oops).
