Christy,
I hate to admit it, but I've had this problem before too. It's awful and I know that it's dangerous!!!! Here are my tricks that have helped in the past:

1. Sing to the radio
2. keep moving - If you don't drive a stick, tap your left foot (don't shake it like an involuntary reaction - push it to the floor, like you're exercising, move your hands around on the wheel and check your posture
3. avoid sunlight if possible - the sun makes my eyes squint and then they all of a sudden can close - that is bad.
4. Bring a drink - cold may be better here

If all else fails:

1. I've been known to chew on my fingers
2. Stop the car, pull over, get out and walk around. Even if it's only for two minutes, that usually helps.

Be safe Christy!!! Hope you're feeling better soon.
