My husbands 9 year old niece, who has been battling cancer (a tumor on her brainstem) for a little over a year, has taken a bad turn and has been admitted into the hospital. She's now having to rely on a feeding tube and oxygen for her survival, and the doctors aren't too hopeful for the outcome.
This cancer has unfortunately proven to be very strong and dispite vigorous treatment attempts, Alyssa's poor little body has given in. Just 2 months ago, at her parents discretion, they stopped all medication and radiation, hoping that she might start feeling better and that their faith would prevail. It's just amazing how quickly an illness can take over.
I have very mixed feelings about this... I feel absolutely horrible that she's not doing well, but at the same time, I'm almost relieved that she won't be suffering anymore. It's such a tragedy when anyone has cancer, but when it happens to a child... it's just sickening.
Please keep Alyssa and her family in your thoughts and/or prayers and please pray that her family has the strength to continue on without her cute little bubbly personality to brighten each day.
