Hey Stephie - that's really terrible that the person you went to for help wound up being a dink. I have almost no patience at all for the field of psychology, so I can understand how frustrated and upset you are. I went to see a social worker (I think - have to double check w/ b/f) and she was pretty good. I didn't have a referral so she was $60/hr but I think she also worked on a sliding scale and $60 is way better than $200 ... Just something else to consider.

I don't think I would let anyone call you obsessed - either about being sick or getting better. How can you be obsessed if you're out doing other things, working toward the fabulous future that I just know you're going to have? It's more like a "top-priority" in your life. And maybe it would help if you could think of your IBS as normal, because it is normal for a lot of people. People with diabetes can put just as much time and effort into their diet and lifestyle. For that matter, so do all the people doing the diets that have all those special rules like no bread on Tuesday and only yellow cheese and red meat go together ... And parents of young children constantly plan around their kids. No one thinks that isn't normal. So don't let others make you feel like you don't fit the norm just 'cause you have to take other things into consideration. Normal is whatever you make it out to be, and the people who tell you that you are obsessed (in a bad way) and not normal are just ignorant and narrow-minded (Sorry to be blunt).

I really hope that you feel better hon. I've always been really impressed by you and all of the things that you've done and keep doing. Don't let others get you down - know that you are an amazing person!
