Hi there, I'm a 27 year old guy who has had IBS for about 5 years now. I still remember the first day that I got it -- my stomach started hurting one day and it never went away. Of course I lived in denial thinking "Oh, maybe it will clear up on its own."
I remember being extremely disappointed after talking with a so-called authority on IBS: I asked him what sort of things I could eat and he basically said eat whatever you want because your stomach is going to be upset anyway. (Man, talk about getting your hopes shattered...)
I'm glad I found this site because I've seen a lot of improvement in the past year. There was actually a point in my life where I thought I would never get better, that this was basically a death sentence. But now, sometimes I actually feel "normal" and can go out and have a good time without worrying about my gut. (...well sometimes ) It's still something that I don't like talking about, normally I just tell people I have "stomach problems".
I just want to say that I am amazed by the overwhelming amount of support that you folks give each other. It makes me believe that someday I will be free from this annoying affliction. This site has made a huge difference in my life.
