When I initially starting looking for IBS information. I found this website, and I realized that I had to manage what I ate, and it helped me a lot (the doctors don't tell you much, sometimes you need to pre-diagnose your self and then visit a doctor and give him the suggestion) So I am sharing my story......
I have been feeling abnormal w/ pain, cramp and w/ D for the last 2 years. Last year in September (2004), visited a Gastroenterologist which after doing a Lactose (positive) and Celiac Sprue (negative) tests told me that I had IBS.
February 2005- Visited a nutritionist, I was loosing too much weigth, I was afraid of eating, because unless I ate little and things such as rice, crackers, chicken w/ very little seasoning I would feal sick. Well after talking too her (she had IBS), she recommended that I go for more tests to make sure that I had nothing else.
March 2005= I visited another Gastroenterogist, and I asked him to please do all the tests he could possibly do, to figure out if there is anything else going on. I was feeling miserable for the last year.
July 2005- After Colonoscopy (negative), Upper GI scan w/ Barium (negative), enoumerous blood, stool, urine tests (revealed that I was border line anemic, the doctor advised me to take Ion supplements), Upper endoscopy test (positive) revealed that I had an inflammation in the stomach-gastritis, and after biopsy the cause was bacterial infection (Pylori bacteria). I have started a treatment w/ Prevpac which contains 2 types of antibiotics and an acid reducing. I am about 6 days into it, I have left 8 more days of this treatement, then I will be on Prilosec OTC for 2 weeks. Right now I do not feel pain or cramping, which is great. There are side effects to this medicine: D. which occurs at least once or twice daily, but now I have control and I can wait a little bit, which was impossible before; Nausea; and a feel the taste of the medicine caming up from the stomach, every so often during the day.
I have realized that I was very anxious for the last year, w/ the medicine I feel less anxious- not sure why, maybe because I know I can control the D. I do not panic if I am in social situations and am afraid not being able to control it.
I am looking into natural remedies for anxiety, I believe that is making the situation worst for me. I am eating more natural/organic foods, I follow diets recomendation in this web site (helped a lot), when I crave for ice-cream I eat a great tasting Soy ice-cream (almond-pistachio from "It's Soy Delicious"), I have been able to manage it better lately.
