Try Babyfood Fruit Sauce In Lieu of Jam!       08/18/04 08:55 AM Edit Reply Quote belinda Reged: 10/09/03 Posts: 474 Loc: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sara-Sage: I can't have jam because of the additives and HFC. I also can't have sugar or artificial sweeteners. For the past 12 years I've used babyfood fruit sauces as a delightful, IBS-safe alternative. I buy babyfood jars (usually Heinz in Canada or Gerber if I'm in the U.S.) of pear sauce, apple-blueberry, apple-strawberry or apple only, etc. It is all cooked and pureed so there are no seeds, etc. The sauce contains only the fruit -- no HFC or additives (although Heinz has recently added a tiny quantity of Ascorbic Acid to its recipe, but organic babyfood brands still don't contain anything but the fruit). I usually smear about half of a small jar of the babyfood fruit sauce on a bagel in the morning. This is a very IBS safe way of eating the fruit sauce because the soluble fibre (which is the bagel or toast) makes it much easier to tolerate the fruit.
