Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

I'm new to the boards as well, although I've been IBS-A for almost two years. I'm 18 and in college and man do I want to be normal. I've pretty much been in denial for the last 2 years eating what I like and trying to ignore the pain, but my latest trip to the ER has made me determined to stick with it this time. I know its hard when your family and friends don't understand. I've had a lot of food restrictions for the last five years because of migranes but my parents and 20-year old brother tend to forget what I can and can't eat. My brother is the hardest to deal with because he really doesn't care, mostly because he feels like my parents are easier on me because of my health problems. It's hard because he loves everything I can't have and always eats it in front of me. When I'm home with the whole family I try to make my own dinner and eat by myself (antisocial, I know, but it helps with the cravings). Right now I'm trying to focus on the things that the diet does allow that I like and would eat even if I didn't have IBS (angel food cake with peaches, mmmmm).
