Hi HL,
My daddy always told me: "Drink your booze straight; the sweet stuff makes ya sick!" He was right.
I can have a Jack, even two -- okay, so the other night I had three (we were celebrating). I drink my Jack straight up (ya don't fool around with sour mash!), and as long as I keep it to only one drink (two max!), "and no sweet stuff," I'm fine.
However, there are a few things you have to do: first, take an Equalactin. Second, have some bread or crackers or other soluble fiber BEFORE the drink. Third, have more bread WITH the drink, and fourth, have more AFTER the drink.
For a lot of folks, vodka goes down pretty easy -- don't mix it, though; Stollie on ice is nice. Another good choice would be a DRY martini on the rocks (very little vermouth in it).
I'm not promoting drinking as a good thing; it's not. But for those times when you want to celebrate, or a special occasion, do it smartly, and you should have no problem.
Enjoy!
Bev
