I have just come through a HUGE battery of tests, beginning with blood work that tested positive for Celiac. All other tests, including the small bowel biopsy, were normal. All of the Upper GI, small bowel follow-through, barium, the colonoscopy, ect...all normal. The blood-work is the only positive, and that is new for me because I have always tested negative for Celiac before.
My question is this, does this mean I am in the early stages with no small bowel damage? I am still experiencing discomfort in the upper abdominal region - especially after eating - and the bloating, gas, constipation are still ongoing. The intense pain and diarreah that plagued me for about a month (began Memorial Day weekend) has subsided, but that region of my abdomen is still tender. Gall bladder ultrasound was also normal. Bowel habits still include urgency, incomplete evacuation and tendancy toward "C".
The doctor made no follow-up appointment, and the nurse said any other problems would be labeled IBS. Do I disregard the positive bloodwork and go about life? Or do I find another physician who knows something more about Celiac? Not that I want that as a diagnosis, mind you. I just want to feel better.
Any help? Anyone?
